Lesson 17: Clothing and Fashion – What are you wearing?
PRESENT CONTINUOUS

Hello everyone! Welcome to our English lesson on Clothing and Fashion. Today, we’ll learn about different clothes, how to use the verb ‘to wear’ in the present continuous, and describe what people are wearing.

First, let’s identify common clothing items. For work, we often wear a suit, a dress shirt, a tie, or a blazer. Women might wear a formal dress, trousers, or a skirt. For leisure, we choose comfortable clothes like a t-shirt, jeans, a hoodie, or shorts. And don’t forget sneakers for casual outings or a swimsuit for the beach!

Next, let’s master the verb ‘to wear’ in the Present Continuous. We use it to describe what someone is wearing right now. The structure is: Subject + ‘am,’ ‘is,’ or ‘are’ + ‘wearing’ + the clothing item.

For example:
“I am wearing a blue shirt.”
“She is wearing a red dress.”
“They are wearing sneakers.”

Now, let’s practice describing what people are wearing. Look at this picture: He is wearing a dark suit and a white shirt. In this next photo, she is wearing a floral dress and sandals. And here, our friends are wearing t-shirts and jeans. Great job!

Today, we identified clothing items, learned ‘to wear’ in the Present Continuous, and practiced describing outfits. Keep practicing, and you’ll be a fashion expert in no time! See you next time!

End of Scene

👕 Work Life vs. Weekend

How we dress depends on where we are. Let’s compare two different styles:

Suit (jacket and trousers) A suit on a table.
Shirt and Tie A real photo of a light blue shirt and a dark blue tie neatly folded. This image helps students identify essential professional attire and practice the Present Continuous: "I am wearing a shirt and tie to work."
Blouse and Skirt A real photo of a professional cream-colored blouse with pleated detail and a navy blue pencil skirt. This image provides a clear example of formal office wear for the lesson, helping students practice the Present Continuous: "She is wearing a blouse and skirt to the office today.
Dress shoes / Heels A clear photo of professional burgundy leather heels with a sturdy block heel and a stylish strap. This image represents formal footwear, helping students learn to describe complete outfits: "She is wearing elegant dress shoes for her presentation.
👟 Casual (Weekend)

Jeans and T-shirt A high-quality photo of a folded gray T-shirt resting on top of a pair of blue denim jeans. This image illustrates the "Casual (Weekend)" vocabulary section, helping students practice descriptions like: "On Saturdays, I am wearing jeans and a T-shirt."
Hoodie / Sweatshirt A real photo of a folded light gray hoodie with a front pocket, sitting on top of a dark navy sweatshirt. This image is used to teach casual weekend attire, perfect for practicing: "He is wearing a hoodie because it is a relaxing Sunday."
Sneakers / Trainers A real photo of a pair of clean, white leather sneakers with white laces. This image represents casual footwear, helping students distinguish between formal and informal shoes while practicing: "I am wearing sneakers because I am going for a walk."
Shorts and Sandals A clear photo of a pair of khaki chino shorts laid flat next to a pair of brown leather sandals. By showing the leg openings of the shorts, the image clearly distinguishes them from long pants, making it an ideal teaching tool for summer vocabulary: "In the summer, I am wearing shorts and sandals because it is hot."

📐 Grammar: The verb “WEAR”

To describe clothes right now, we use the Present Continuous: Subject + BE + Wearing.

Positive: “I am wearing a blue shirt today.”
Negative: “He isn’t wearing a tie right now.”
Question: “What are you wearing to the party?”

💡 Quick Tip: Use wear for things on your body (clothes, glasses, jewelry). Use carry for things in your hands (bags, umbrellas).

🗣️ Conversation: Describing a Photo

A candid, high-quality photo showing two friends laughing while looking at a smartphone screen. The screen displays a picture from an office party featuring Sarah, who is wearing a vibrant red evening dress, and Mark, who is wearing a gray blazer and dark sunglasses indoors. The background is softly blurred with festive party lights, perfectly capturing the context of the dialogue: "He is wearing them because he thinks he looks cool!"

A: Look at this photo from the office party! Who is that?

B: That’s Sarah. She is wearing a beautiful red dress.

A: And why is Mark wearing sunglasses inside?

B: Haha! He is wearing them because he thinks he looks cool!
