This section introduces basic vocabulary for colors and geometric shapes, helping you describe everyday objects and places more clearly.

Section Goals

  • Recognize and name the most common colors.
  • Identify and name basic shapes in everyday objects.
  • Use colors and shapes in simple sentences.

Common Colors

Colors can be used in two ways:

  • Before the noun: a red apple, the blue sky.
  • After “to be”: The apple is red. The sky is blue.

Vocabulary: Shapes (Nouns)

These are the basic shape words. They are nouns.

Oval This is an oval.

 

Shapes in Context (Adjectives)

We often use adjective forms to describe the shape of real objects.

Circle Round The coin is round.

Square Square The window is square.

Triangle Triangular The pizza slice is triangular.

Rectangle Rectangular The door is rectangular.

Oval Oval The egg is oval.

 

Combining Colors and Shapes

We can describe objects using both color and shape together.

Color Shape Example Sentence
Red ⭕ Circle The traffic sign is a red circle.

Yellow ⬜ Square The toy block is a yellow square.

Brown ▭ Rectangle The tabletop is a brown rectangle.

Green 🔺 Triangle The flag shows a green triangle in the corner.

Orange ⬯ Oval The fruit is an orange oval (like a mango).
